Two men were arrested Saturday morning in the Banks Crossing area for impersonating a police officer.
The men used a flashing light in an unmarked Mercury car in an attempt to stop another person. Unfortunately for the two men, the driver of the other vehicle was Captain Jeff Gribble of the Banks County Sheriff's Office Uniform Patrol Commander.
"With the assistance of other deputies in marked patrol cars, the men were stopped and taken into custody on numerous felony and misdemeanor charges including felony firearm violations," Sheriff Carlton Speed said. "If you are being stopped and feel that it may not be a real police officer we encourage you to dial 911. You may also slow your vehicle and stop at the nearest safe area in view of the public."
Woman stuck to toilet seat
A woman found herself in a sticky situation after going to the restroom at a retail store at Banks Crossing last week.
Someone had apparently put glue on all of the toilet seats and she didn’t realize this until becoming stuck on the seat. Emergency medical services personnel were called to the store to help remove the woman from the toilet seat, according to an incident report filed at the Banks County Sheriff’s Office. The woman had to be taken to a Gainesville hospital for treatment.
The manger of the store found a brown paper sack in the restroom that had a bottle of Loctite GO2 glue in it.
The manager also noted that all of the toilet seats had a glue-like substance on them. Three toilet seats were damaged with the value listed at $20 each.

Holliday arrested on drug charges
The Banks County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man on drug charges following un undercover drug operation.
On Monday, July 22, officers from the Banks County Sheriff’s Office conducted an undercover drug operation in the Banks Crossing area.
“Officers attempted to perform a traffic stop on the alleged drug dealer’s vehicle when the driver fled south on I-85,” said Banks County Chief Deputy Shawn Wilson. “Officers trained in the Pursuit Intervention Technique stopped the vehicle.”
Johnny Cue Holliday, 22, fled the area but was later apprehended in Madison County. He is facing charges of sale of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, theft by receiving a stolen vehicle, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, several traffic violations and outstanding warrants from other areas within the region, Wilson stated.

Four men who ran at traffic stop now in custody
All four Hispanic males in the I-85 and exit 154 area who were the focus of a man hunt Wednesday are now in custody.
Ten other people from the same vehicle were brought to the jail for questioning, according to officials.

Search continues for one man
Officers with the Banks County Sheriff’s Office are still actively looking for one person who fled the scene of a traffic stop earlier today on Interstate 85. According to the sheriff's office, the search is for a "Hispanic male who is wanted for questioning for possible human trafficking."

Two arrested on drug charges
Two people were arrested Monday night on drug charges by the Banks County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office was conducting a drug operation at a controlled area of Banks County at 10:30 p.m. Monday when the arrests were made. After the drug buy was completed and the BCSO units attempted to arrest the offenders, one of them drove his vehicle into another vehicle and fled south on U.S. Highway 441.
The two offenders were identified as Travavious Jantrell Umble, 23, 2939 Liberty Church Road, Hartwell, and Meljentavious Lyn’juan Martin, 22, 44 Ware Street, Hartwell.
A BCSO unit pursued Umble and Martin into the city limits of Commerce at which time Umble stopped his vehicle and Umble and Martin were taken into custody.
Just south of Walmart on the edge of Hwy. 441, BCSO units located a glass Mason jar containing a large amount of marijuana that had been thrown from the pursued vehicle.
Both Umble and Martin were charged with attempt or conspiracy to violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Laws and abandonment of certain dangerous drugs, poisons and controlled substance. Umble was also charged with additional traffic charges pertaining to the fleeing and attempting to elude.
The Banks County Sheriff’s Office continues with the investigation and asks anyone with information in this case to call the BCSO at 706-677-2248 or call the Tip Line at 678-780-1227.

A man who claimed to be the victim of an armed robbery at a Banks Crossing gas station changed his story several times

Monday evening, at 5 p.m., the Banks County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Race Trac Station in reference to an armed robbery call. A man advised the he had stopped for gas at which time a white car pulled in behind his vehicle. The man stated that a male got out of the car and jumped into the passenger side of his vehicle, the male then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at him demanding that he give him money. During the investigation, the complainant changed his story several times.
“The claim could not be substantiated by video and the case has been closed,” officials report.

The Banks County Sheriff’s Office investigated an incident in which Danny Joe Fowler was alleged to have committed the offenses of armed robbery, theft by taking and aggravated assault when he reportedly held a straight razor to the throat of another with the intent to rob him of money. He did not take cash but allegedly did take a .308 cal rifle and vehicle from the residence without the permission of the owner and fled to Jackson County.
Fowler was pulled over by a Jackson County deputy for a traffic violation on Hoods Mill Road near East Jackson Middle School. After being pulled over, he reportedly ran from the scene, taking the rifle with him. The deputy chased the man and other law enforcement officers came to the area to join in the manhunt.
Several canine units, as well as law enforcement officers from the Georgia State Patrol and the Banks County Sheriff’s Office joined in the chase. They set up a perimeter around an area on South Apple Valley Road/Potts Road where Fowler was spotted and he was captured.
The traffic stop was around 4 p.m. and Fowler was apprehended at approximately 6:30 p.m. He is facing numerous charges in Jackson and Banks counties.
A Jackson County deputy was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center and treated for hypothermia he suffered during the chase.
