BOC lifts hiring freeze for two positions

The Banks County Board of Commissioners lifted the hiring freeze at a meeting last Tuesday to allow for two employees to be hired.
The action will allow an economic director to be hired, as well as a part-time staff member in the technology department. The hiring freeze will remain in place for any other positions.

The vote lifting the ban to hire an economic director was unanimous. The county development authority agreed earlier to fund the first year’s salary for an economic director.

The vote to lift the ban for the part-time position was approved in a 4-1 vote. Commissioner Charles Turk voted against this, while Rickey Cain, Joe Barefoot, Ernest Rogers and Milton Dalton voted in favor of it.

The position in the technology department is for four to five hours per day and is a temporary position to be in place only until the work load is caught up, Dalton said.
