Baldwin has new animal control officer

“Kevin will ride along with Habersham County or the City of Cornelia for a couple of days a week and then will be out on his own,” Presley said.

Presley said that he would be bringing a proposed animal control ordinance before the council for consideration at the November 8 meeting.

“We require residents to register their animals, but we need an ordinance to put some teeth in the enforcement,” Presley said.

OTHER BUSINESS

In other business at last week’s council meeting:

•Presley told the council that the city received a check from Timothy P. Healy, Attorney at Law, Toccoa, in the amount of $4,811 for restitution in the state vs. Jeff Murray case. “The check is made out to the City of Baldwin Fire Department, but the money belongs to the volunteer fireman’s fund,” Presley said. The council unanimously approved depositing the check in the volunteer fireman’s fund.

•Presley reported that the recent paving on the Park Avenue project is complete.

•the council unanimously approved taking the item of water treatment plant raw water pump station shelter off the table and approved a bid of $28,500 from Select Builders for the shelter. The council tabled the matter at the Sept. 27 council meeting and voted to approve the bid from Select Builders at the October council meeting without first taking the item off the table, Presley reported.

•the council took the same action as above on the water treatment plant raw water pump repairs. A bid from Midway Electric was approved for $14,120 for pump repairs and $21,400 for a new pump.

•the council unanimously approved a bid of $12,200 from Midway Electric for repairs to pump #1 at the wastewater treatment plant Regency lift station. This money will come from water and sewer distribution funds, Presley advised.
