Man dies in Banks County house fire
A man died in a Banks County house fire on Sunday. The victim was identified on Monday as Wayne Lee Arrowood, 59 years old.
The residential structure fire, reported to Banks County 9-1-1 at 7:44 p.m. on March 20, was on West Coker Road in Alto.
“Upon the arrival of our units, the house was reported to be fully involved in fire,” said Banks County Fire Chief Robert Wilkins. “We did get a report that a person was most likely inside.”
After the fire was knocked down enough for crews to make entry and conduct a search, the body of a male in his late 50’s was found in a bedroom adjacent to the living room, Wilkins stated.
Wilkins, who is the lead investigator, said the preliminary investigation points to the fire being accidental in nature and originating in the area around a wood heater located in the living room.
“Although everything appears to be accidental, as with any fire death, other steps are taken in the investigation to make sure that it is nothing more than a sad and tragic event,” Wilkins said.
Units from the Lee Arrendale State Prison, Baldwin Fire Department and Banks County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the incident.

Leaving reality behind at Cirque du Soleil’s ‘KURIOS’
BY ANGELA GARY
In Renaissance Europe, aristocrats and towns people often had a cabinet of curiosities filled with unique artifacts, mysterious travel souvenirs, works of art and other historical items. In Cirque du Soleil’s “KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities,” guests are surrounded by these whimsical curiosities that come to life in the most amazing ways. It’s as if you are at a Victorian carnival or magical sideshow.
As you leave the show, you see a sign declaring “Now re-entering reality.” This made me smile because you really do leave reality behind during the two-hour show.
Each act made the impossible seem possible. Just a few that made audience members gasp in awe and clap in delight were: An upside down world where a table was hanging from the ceiling completely set for dinner with people sitting around it; an invisible circus where curtains open and water splashes by itself; and a man juggling as he dangles in the air from a rope. Throw in trapeze artists and the other acts showcasing amazing athletes, you have a wonderful show, one of the best Cirque du Soleil productions I’ve seen.

RR wants to take down Lula's bridge
Norfolk Southern Corporation has offered to pay the City of Lula for the demolition of its bridge. The Lula City Council discussed the issue at its March 14 meeting.
