No election necessary in Alto, Gillsville, Maysville
Alto, Gillsville and Maysville will not have city elections this year because only one candidate qualified for the positions that were to be on the Nov. 3 ballot.
In Alto, only the incumbents qualified for the three seats up for election. Incumbent Audrey Turner qualified for the mayor’s position and incumbents John Closs and Eddie Palmer qualified for the council seats for Post 2 and 4, respectively.
In Gillsville, incumbent Todd Dale qualified for the Post 3 council seat, incumbent Greg Ferguson qualified for the Post 4 council seat and Samuel Wade Dale qualified for the Post 5 council seat, currently held by Rudess Hooper. Hooper did not seek re-election.
In Maysville, the incumbents were the only ones to qualify: Richard Presley, mayor; Junior Hardy, Ward 2; and Scott Harper, Ward 4.

Pedestrian struck and killed at Banks Crossing
The Georgia State Patrol reports that a pedestrian was killed Sept. 1, at approximately 9:50 p.m., after being struck by a truck while crossing U.S. 441 at Banks Crossing.
The pedestrian, Jeffrey Leon Poynter, 46, Cave City, Ky., died at the scene, after a northbound, empty car carrier tractor trailer struck him.
The car carrier, driven by Patrick Kirk Hubbard, 43, The Woodlands, Texas, was turning left into the T/A Truck Stop and struck Poynter as he crossed the roadway near Hampton Court.
The GSP reports no charges will be filed.
