Ladies now 11-7 for season

Banks County’s Lady Leopards were 9-3 going into last weekends’ Evans Invitational in Augusta. A little bit of bad luck and the girls dropped the first three games, two by one run. Banks County bounced back and picked up the final two games in the tourney.

On Tuesday, it was back to region play for the team as the girls headed to Dawson County and came out on the short end of a 7-2 battle. The ladies are now 11-7 and 3-2 in region play as Banks County gets ready to play at Union County this week.

Taking on the Panthers on Thursday at 6 p.m. on the road, Banks County faces a tough opponent in the 12-1-1, 5-0 Union County team. In the first meeting this season, Union County defeated the ladies 6-0. Last season Banks County fell in the first game to Union County, but came back to defeat the Panthers twice, including once in the region tournament. The Lady Leopards are looking for a repeat of that feat as they head to Blairsville on Thursday.

Coming up next week, it is more on the road work for the girls as the Lady Leopards head to Fannin County on Tuesday and East Hall on Thursday. Banks County will look to defend a narrow win over Fannin as the ladies won a 4-3 contest in August against the Rebels.

On Thursday, as the Lady Leopards take on the Vikings, Banks County should dominate the 0-13 East Hall team and continue a nine game winning streak started in 2005. Start times for both away games are 5:30 p.m.

Evans Invitational
In the opening game, Banks lost 8-0 to Woodland-Henry. Jordan Rogers took the loss giving up six earned runs in the first inning. Brooke Harris finished out the game pitching five innings allowing two earned runs.

In round two, the Lady Leopards were one run short as Cross Creek slipped by 4-3 for the win. Laura Rose Pickens had a good time at bat going 3-3 with three singles and two RBIs.

In what was an unfortunate repeat for the Lady Leopards, Lakeside Evans also defeated Banks 4-3 in the next game. Harris pitched a complete game while McKenna Rylee went 2-3 with a double and a single to score one run and drive in two RBIs as the leading batter.

Things turned around for Banks in the next round as Westside-Augusta fell before the ladies 5-3.

Rylee pitched for the win giving up just three earned runs off four hits after six innings. Madison Franklin hit two doubles and scored one run while Harris batted 2-3 with two singles for two RBIs.

In the final game of the tourney, Banks County squared off against Jefferson County and handily took a 10-1 victory.

Harris pitched six innings for six strikeouts and one earned run off two hits.

Franklin led the batting, 2-4 with a triple, and a double with two runs scored. Rylee followed with her own double, two runs and two RBIs. Pickens went 2-3 with two singles and two runs with an RBI while Harris hit two doubles for three RBIs and two runs.

Dawson County
Returning to region play on Tuesday the Lady Leopards fell to Dawson County 7-2.

Harris took the loss after six innings, allowing nine hits for seven earned runs.

Taylor Kennedy went 3-4 with three singles but couldn’t build off of them.
