The Lady Leopards took one on the chin last Friday as Banks County recorded it’s first loss during the first round of the Threads Invitational at Stephens County.
Several errors contributed to the loss in what coaches said should have been a 3-0 game turned into a 7-0 game with Banks being on the short end.
The loss was brushed aside as the Lady Leopards rebounded on Saturday morning in the second round of the tournament as Banks County played the host, Stephens County. A 4-1 win over the Indians leaves the girls with a 3-1 record two weeks into the season.
Due to rain the afternoon games on Saturday were delayed. At press time, no word on when the game would be rescheduled.
This week, the Lady Leopards host Union County on Thursday in the first sub-region game of the season.
Opening pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. Union County is currently 2-0 and holds the record for the series between the schools 8-2 since 2006.
Banks County has been on a tear in the past two meetings of the teams, defeating the Panthers 3-1;8-2 in 2009. The Lady Leopards will look to continue that run as Union County comes to Homer tomorrow.
Following the region opener, Banks County heads to Hiawassee this weekend to compete in the Top of Georgia Classic. The first challenger to play the Lady Leopards will be Paideia on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
Next week is another sub-region game for the ladies as Banks County hosts Fannin County on Tuesday. Fannin is also 3-1 currently. Banks County dominates the series between the schools going 7-3 since 2006.
In the last meeting, Fannin County snatched victory away from the Lady Leopards in a 1-0 contest in 2009. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31.
