DOT projects unveiled: Bridge repairs, landscaping among plans

The Georgia Department of Transportation has more than $3 million in road improvement projects planned in Banks County over the next four years with a bike path, bridge repair and streetscape improvements among the plans.

The DOT held a meeting in Jefferson last week to present the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), which is a four-year plan detailing federally-funded projects. The plan presented is for 2011-2014.

Maps of the projects were on display and DOT engineers were at the meeting to answer questions. The majority of those who attended the hearing were county and city officials.

The DOT plans to spend $1.2 million to fund seven bridge repair projects along I-85 in Banks and Jackson counties.

Other projects planned in Banks County include: water pollution mitigation; replacing bridges at State Route 323 and Grove River, Haden Bridge Road at Grove Creek and State Route 15; and landscaping as part of the Maysville streetscape project.
