It was not a good weekend for race fans, as Mother Nature came away the only winner of area motorsports events on Saturday.
The five-division racing program slated for Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson was cancelled due to the heavy rainfall that hit the area Saturday.
Track officials are reviewing possible dates to reschedule the event and will make an announcement at a later date.
Fans and competitors holding tickets and pit armbands for the event will be able to use them for the Sept. 18 George Elliott Memorial presented by Monolith Companies or the Oct. 9 McDonalds Night racing program.
The track will return to action on Aug. 28, when NASCAR returns to the high-banked Jefferson track. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will make their only appearance in Georgia for a 150-lap event on that night, along with local Mini-Stock, Truck and Renegade divisions. For more information, go to www.greshammotorsportspark.com.
It was also a washout for the straight line set, as the Fast Friday and Summit ET Series events scheduled at the Atlanta Dragway for the weekend were also cancelled due to the wet weather. The next Summit Racing Series event is slated for Saturday, Aug. 21. For more information, go to www.atlantadragway.com.
