The countdown is almost over, only nine days separate the Banks County gridiron Leopards from the start of another season.
With the season opener taking place on the road Aug. 27, at Social Circle, fans who can’t make the drive can see the Leopards in action this week as the team host Franklin County in the preseason scrimmage. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13.
Any bad luck associated with Friday the 13th will fall on the Franklin County Lions as the BCHS boys are primed to storm the field.
While a win would set the pace for the Leopards for the 2010 season, the team is also looking at the scrimmage as a way to find out early what will work and what needs to be left in the playbook.
Throughout the summer the team has worked out, practiced and is now looking forward to the season.
Coach Blair Armstrong is confident in his players and feels good about the schedule this season.
Banks County plays on the north end of region 8-AA this year. The addition of schools into the region, including Jackson County, caused the split, but Armstrong and school administrators all think Banks County was placed in the best of the two to play in.
In the north sub-region, Banks will face Union, Dawson, Rabun, Fannin and East Hall. There is one cross-over game scheduled where the Leopards will play East Jackson in September.
The sub-region scheduling also means that Banks County will not enter the brunt of region play until the weather turns cooler in October.
