HOMER – Swayne Lewallen, 84, of the Nail Creek Community, died Sunday, August 1, 2010.
Born in Banks County on March 27, 1926, he was the son of the late James W. and Madge Coffee Lewallen. He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was a member of the Nails Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for a number of years and was also a member of the Heaven Bound Sunday School Class. He retired after many years as the owner and operator of the Nails Creek Gas Company. Mr. Lewallen was preceded in death by a sister, Jannette Watkins; and brothers, Owen and Nelson Lewallen.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Parks Lewallen, Homer; sister and brother-in-law, Ruzelle and Milton Patterson, Homer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clay and Peggy Lewallen and Ray and Glenda Lewallen, all of Baldwin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 4, at 2 p.m., from the Nails Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Duane Eller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the service hour.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, August 3, from 6 to 9 p.m.
