HOMER – Fred Gibson, 83, died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Habersham County Medical Center following a period of declining health.

Born in Banks County on October 14, 1926, he was the son of the late Owen and Dicey Jane Lawrence Gibson. He was retired as group leader with Lumite Corporation with 36-1/2 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Damascus Baptist Church and attended Mt. View Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and farming. Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Jean Gibson; and sisters, Edith Churchwell Watkins and Florene Fulghum.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Lucille Jackson Gibson, Homer; sons, Eddie Randall Gibson and Roger Carroll Gibson, both of Homer; a brother, Roy Gibson, Toccoa; sister, Marilyn Sturlock, Toccoa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 17, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Revs. James Harvey and Luther Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Old Damascus Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, July 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The family is at the residence.

McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, is in charge of arrangements.
