CARNESVILLE – Max J. Lewallen, 71, of the Nail’s Creek Community, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010.

Born on December 11, 1938, in Franklin County, he was the son of Cosette Miller Lewallen of Carnesville and the late Golden Lewallen. Mr. Lewallen was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Lewallen.

He was a graduate of Banks County High School, obtained his B.S. and M.S. degree in Agriculture Engineering at the University of Georgia. He worked in agriculture research for UGA at the Southern Piedmont Research Station in Watkinsville. He was a licensed professional engineer, licensed surveyor and formed Paul & Lewallen Surveyors and Engineers with James Paul. He later formed Max Lewallen & Associates. He was a member of the Nail’s Creek Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Jeanette Bellamy Lewallen; a son, Timothy Scott Lewallen, Carnesville; daughters, Toni Suzanne Lewallen, Newport, R.I., and Traci Lewallen Dulaney, Ooltewah, Tenn.; granddaughter, Nora Dulaney, Oolteway, Tenn.; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Wilton Bellamy, Carnesville; sister-in-law, Avis Lewallen, Carnesville.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 10, from the Nail’s Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Duane Eller, Claude McBride and Jim McClendon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nail’s Creek Baptist Church Restoration Fund.

Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, was in charge of arrangements.
