A quaint North Georgia town gives visitors the opportunity to pan for gold, browse in charming shops and find outdoor adventure in a beautiful setting.
It was gold that put Dahlonega on the map as it was the site of the first gold rush in the United States and visitors can get a look at the history of the gold rush at a museum on the downtown square . The Dahlonega Gold Museum is located in the old Lumpkin County courthouse that was built in 1836 and used by the county government through 1965.
Crisson’s Gold Mine is a great stop to get a glimpse of the gold phenomenon. The business was operated by the same family for four generations until Tony and Tammy Ray purchased it in 1990.
Crisson’s Gold Mine is a great stop and pan for gold. Visitors can also see the stamp mill, where they crush sand to get gold out. It’s the only one in operation in Georgia.
