It is such a shame that Mr. Ledford is not able to run for BOE Post 3. I believe he would have been a great asset to our BOE. So now, does Dr. Boyles automatically become our next board member for Post 3? If my information is correct, his kids, at least not all of them, do not attend Banks County Schools. Dr. Boyles was quoted as saying "I think the Banks County School System is a fantastic school system and overall the system is very good. I want to take us from good to great." (Banks County News, June 2, 2010 "Republicans Hold 'Meet and Greet' for Candidates") If he truly believes that, then why did his own children not attend school in Banks County. Also, does it bother anyone else as to where "Dr. Boyles" received his credentials?

Dear Disappointed Citizen,

I believe that I in-fact will be on the board for Post 3, since Mr. Ledford has withdrawn from the race. I guarantee that I will work hard for you and all the citizens in Banks County. As for my children, my oldest son Michael graduated from BCHS in 2004, my second oldest son Jeremy graduated from BCHS this year, my son Jordan will be a junior for the upcoming school year at BCHS, and my youngest son Caleb will be in 6th grade at BCMS. I have been a teacher with the Hall County School system since the 2000-2001 school year. When I taught at East Hall Middle School both Jeremy and Jordan went to school with me so that we would have the same spring/fall breaks and start/end the year together. My son Caleb came with me to Jones Elementary for 3rd grade and 5th grade for the same reason listed above. He will be returning to BCMS this fall. My oldest son attended the Banks County Schools for all 12 years of his academic career. I also served as the BCHS Band Booster President for 5 years while Michael was involved in the Band Program. I served the Banks County School's as their D.A.R.E. Officer when I worked for the Sheriff's Office. I have always been willing to serve in any capacity.

As for my credentials I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Science and a Master's Degree in Middle Grades Math and Science both degrees are from Brenau University. My Education Specialist Degree, in Educational Leadership was obtained from Lincoln Memorial University where I earned a 4.0 GPA. My Doctorate in Educational Leadership was obtained from Nova Southeastern University, where my cumulative GPA was a 3.92. I completed all course work and my dissertation while enrolled at Nova. If you would like to see a copy of my transcripts they are all available, just ask me for them. I hope this answers your questions. If you have more, feel free to email me or call me at my home.

Thanks again,

Dr. Michael Boyle

Well said Mr. Boyle. I know neither you nor the other candidate, so I have no dog in the fight so to speak, but I'm impressed with the professional response you provided. I'm a supporter of the Banks County School System and offer you congratulations and well wishes in your new endeavor. I think the Board and Mr. Erwin has done a fine job these past few years and it's good to know that we have a qualified individual to take over for one of our former members that is stepping down.

At least Bo Garrison is no longer going to be on the BOE. The man who used his position to promote family members (re his son in law). Good riddance to political corruption in Banks County.
#3.1 If you do KNOW it, don't say it! on 06/23/10 at 03:42 PM [Reply]
FYI Banks voter, His son-in-law has advanced on his own accord and is one of the best administrators in the system. Any one associated with the school system and his son-in-law will tell you the same thing. Were you in the meeting when he "promoted" him? Do you even know if he voted or abstained? Maybe you should become more familar with the system before you make judgements you have no earthly idea about.

I know him and think he has done a well job ! Not alot of people would have stood up to the stuff he has just to keep our kids FIRST NOT LAST . SO be it if he did use his connections to help his son in law out. Who hasn't got help from someone already in the field your trying to go in ? If we tell the truth huh. I just hope that who ever gets in the office truely thinks of the "KIDS" not just go along with the crowd to please this person or that person .

Goodbye to corruption in Banks? Garrison is the only member of the BOE with any decency. You will regret that he is NOT running, but be happy with the beavis and butthead want to be's running the board! This very paper printed a statement from the board, 88.5 percent of the entire budget is salary and benefits!! DAMNIT, 88.5% of 28 MILLION DOLLARS ARE SALARIES AND BENEFITS!! Is anyone else in Banks County listening?? People losing their homes, and this? Each of them need to be taken behind the barn for an attitude adjustment!

Mr. Williams was a teacher at Banks County High School long before he was Mr. Garrison's son in law. He worked through the ranks to acquire that leadership position fair and square. Don't discredit his hard work and dedication to furthering his education because his father in law is on the board. He worked hard for that position and will do a great job. Also Mr. Boyles, I to am very pleased with your response...Well said!! You also worked hard for your education. Regardless of what the person above says, they don't just hand out college degrees. You have to work for them. I am excited about the change that is going to take place at the Board of Education in the coming months. I think those involved will work well together for the students. That is all you can ask for.

It was past time for Garrison to go. He looked after his family's best interest and nothing more. His son-in-law was just one example. He used personal vendettas while on the BOE. He helped run off quality teachers and employees for personal reasons. That is the definition of corruption. He once said "My family name allows me to do this."
