I hope all the voters in the Homer area is aware that Mr. Ricky Cain just left is wide open for delayed help at the last commish meeting. He wants to sell a set of equipment that the taxpayers of this county and yes the city too Mr Cain !! paid for, sell it !! The Homer Fire Dept needs this equipment and had people there to talk to the commish about it, and Mr Cain shut it down !! Thanks Mr Ricky Cain, the ones of us that live inside the city of Homer are going to remember this come election day !! July 20th !!

Why should the Homer Fire Dept get the surplus equipment? The citizens of the ENTIRE county paid for it, not just you few in Homer. Why not give it to Maysville, Lula, Gillsville, Alto, Commerce? Cain did the right thing - it was bought by the county and the proceeds of the sale should benefit the county. Homer is not the county!

I thought Homer was the seat of Banks County and the people of Homer was part of the county Hmm im lost now i just hope all the people who travel to Homer waits till they get out of the city to have a accident so the county can use there stuff to help them. Dang get a life people.

The citizens of homer should worry more about the department in general instead of a piece of equipment. If you will watch and listen they never respond the county has to pick up the calls. Cain did do the right thing where Turk should have not said a word. Its unethical to vote to give a piece of equipment to a department your with.

Ok i see. Those of us who live inside the city Dont shop at Wal Mart or eat at any of the resturants at 85 or we dont do bussiness at any of the stores or supply houses in the county, right ?? WRONG !! Maybe the citizens inside the city limits of Homer needs to start going outside the county to shop and eat, maybe that would send Mr Cain a message. All the citizens of Banks county have helped buy that equipment and i feel like if we can keep it in our county we should, and yes the city of Homer is part of Banks County !!

If Homer would show up to use that equipment it might make sense. I listen to my scanner and always hear them get several call outs before anyone finally goes. That equipment might as well be thrown away if it was given to Homer. If I am not mistaken there is a set of jaws already in the city limits at the county fire station. I'll have to check on that to be sure.
#4.1 Are you kidding? on 06/21/10 at 03:22 PM [Reply]
You listen to your scanner? Sounds more like you listen to your pager or radio. For someone who is acting like they aren't a fireman, you sure know the jargon pal... Yeah, "check on that" set of "jaws" at the county station at your next "call out" firefighter anonymous...

Rickey Cain made the right decision. All the taxpayers in Banks Co paid for the equipment. It is surplus equipment for BANKS COUNTY to sell. Any city or person can place a bid for the equipment. The money received will go back to the county. With the county budget so limited every little bit of money means less burden on the taxpayers. The City of Homer does not automatically get it just because they asked for it. Why doesn't some one with the City of Homer or the Homer Fire Department apply for a grant if they are in such a great need for the equipment. That way they could qualify for the equipment without paying for it. Grants are not that hard to apply for and surely someone knows how to fill out the application and can show how much the Homer Fire Dept needs the equipment to save lives.
#5.1 Grants are sooo easy on 06/22/10 at 06:42 AM [Reply]
Well since grants are so easy to come by I think that Banks County FD would save a bunch of money by applying for (and getting) the SAFER Grant and not need to pay for fulltime firefighters anymore because that is what the SAFER Grant is for! Fire them all and start over with all the money from these easily obtained grants! Heck, since there are grants for everything out there we should be able to have everything for free... After all, grants are REALLY easy to apply for! Are you really this dumb?
Your argument makes as much sense as someone playing the lottery instead of paying their mortgage payment... After all, it is easy to fill out a form (apply) to buy a lottery ticket and think about how easy it will be to pay off your house when you get those millions!!! Surely you know how to fill out a lotto ticket, the rest is easy! Idiot...
#5.1.1 anonymous on 06/22/10 at 03:42 PM [Reply]
You must be an employee with the Homer Fire Dept. Your suggestion to fire all the BC fire dept makes no sense and neither does playing the lottery to pay your mortgage.
I did not make the statement that grants are so easy to come by. I stated that grant applications are easy to apply for. There are one day workshops held quite often to help people understand how to fill out the applications correctly.
I am not dumb nor an idiot. I have filled out grant applications and received monies to be spent for projects/equipment. How many have you filled out??
#5.1.2 anon on 06/24/10 at 10:39 AM [Reply]
You really should do your research on the SAFER Grant before you speak. It does not pay in full the firefighters you hire for the Department. It is amazing how many people open there mouth thinking they know all and show how stupid they actually are in these blogs.
#6 What about on 06/22/10 at 06:15 AM [Reply]
House bill 489 in regards to Homer Fire Dept? There are two stations in the city limits providing the same service and one is staff full time or at least all day while Homer is not...who provides better service?
As for the equipment it would be unethical for the county to gift that to Homer now if they would have sold it for a $1 then it tends to be different but sorry you can't just turn around and do what Turk wanted(Check your Ethics handbook Charles ).
In other words both sides went about it the wrong way and as is normal we havea peeing match ..sigh nothing will ever change.
#6.1 Gifting on 06/22/10 at 09:34 AM [Reply]
Actually, governments can gift or donate items to other government entities. I personally cannot see why Banks County's citizens (either in the county or the ones in Homer) wouldn't want to have more equipment available. Wouldn't it make sense to have extra help available in case of a large disaster? How much benefit does a couple hundred dollars make in the scheme of things? So you sell this equipment for a few dollars to someone in Macon, now you have a big disaster and you just need that equipment, but too bad it isn’t here anymore. Now call another county for help because neither you, nor Homer has it available.
