Banks County’s girls’ track team had a bit of rescheduling this week as the 8-AA girls region meet was pushed back to Monday due to Saturday’s wet weather.
The 8-AA region meet, which was hosted by East Jackson, opened on Monday with the completion of the field events. The final round of the running events are scheduled for Wednesday.
After the first round, Banks County was at the back of the field with six points.
North Oconee led the first round with 95 points followed by Jefferson with 52.5 and a tie for third between East Jackson and Rabun at 29 points. Dawson County, Walnut Grove, Oglethorpe and Fannin County also were competing.
Earning points in for the Lady Leopards were Jessica Denton in the discus and Maggie McCoy in the 1600m run.
The Lady Leopards also qualified for today’s (Wednesday) finals.
Jessica Newell qualified in the 300-meter hurdles and the 100m hurdles. McCoy also qualified in the 3200m run.
While the Lady Leopards work on the region finals today (Wednesday,) the boys are gearing up for their own region meet this weekend.
The 8-AA region boys track meet is scheduled for this Saturday at Jefferson.
The tentative start is set for 10:30 a.m. with field events. Preliminary running events begin at 1:45 p.m. with the finals set for Monday, May 3, starting at 4:45 p.m.
