to think if he hadnt wrecked his van he would probably never been put in jail, seems police allowed to drive and seems not booked very often for DUI, only when they get in a crash and cant leave the scene!!!!!!

Okay it says in the article that it was not alcohol, my guess it was medication, which in GA if you operate a motor vehicle when you are taking any form of medication that can impair you ability to drive and you get stopped or have a wreck you can be charged with DUI for it.. Most of the medications come with warning labels that warns you not to operate a motor vehicle or this medication may cause drowsiness, also did you know a sleepy driver is as dangerous as a person who has been drinking?? I dont agree with him getting behind the wheel and endangering others, he should have known better being a deputy! But it is scary to think just how many other folks do the same thing, I have did it before as for as taking meds that make you sleepy ( but after I have found this info out I will never do it again! I will ask someone to drive for me or wait until I am awake more or have stopped taking the medication before driving!) My guess anyone who reads this has did the same thing , we just got lucky we didn't get into a wreck!! He may not have thought about it when he got behind the wheel, we make mistakes it is part of being human, no one is perfect, except the good Lord himself!! I feel bad the deputy was in the wreck and thank God he and everyone else was okay, he learned the hard way, to lose a job over it I am not sure , more facts may should have been brought forth before making this judgment call, if it was medication and he was prescribed and didn't think before he acted then my opinion let him keep his job , if it was not his medication or he was taking drugs and using alcohol then , yes by all means he needed to loose his job! But don't just fire someone for something most everyone has done in there lifetime! Did anyone ever ask him if he had any medical problems before assuming he was even DUI??

I can not believe what i am reading... In what way could anybody justify what this person has done? He had all of his children plus his wife in the car with him, anyone who would put their family in danger knowing that they were intoxicated is an idiot to say the least. Futher more everyone was NOT okay two children were hurt pretty badly. My thoughts and prayers go out to these children.
#1.2.2 OMG also. on 03/01/10 at 04:35 PM [Reply]
OK you answered it. In Ga if you get pulled over or have a wreck while taking Rx. that makes you drowsy they it is a DUI. Mr Thompson represented the Law as a Deputy he should have known better. Sorry but it doesn't matter what kind of Medication he was own he should have brought it to the Sheriffs attention and he should have known better than endangering the life of these children and the others on the same road as he. Yes other people do it but other people do other stupid things that doesn't make it right.

Is it an assumption that he was on a perscribed medication or was it actually a street drug? Will we ever know since he was an official or does it end here?

i feel the same as rick every body jumps to soon to judge a little to soon, you know he could have been taken these meds for some time & something happen. unless you are a DR. NO ONE SHOULD MAKE JUDGMENT UNTIL THE FACKS COME IN. My borther works for a PD YOU PEOPLE really think these men & women make enough money out here to keep us safe. NO these days these some county & city deputys have to take some many days off.alot of times depeanding on where they work there may only be 1 deputy working. My God people get real. if the GSP SAID IT WASNT ALCOHOL. Clearly everyone needs to wait for the test to come back. 2nd Not all MEDS ARE NARCOTICS!!!!! Is High Blood Press Meds a Narcotic Well NO!!! IS Being a is takeing blood suger Meds a narcotic NO... But anyone of those can do something to you that could have made that happen. There are alot of different medical problems that could have caused this you all have no idea, you all sit here write this bull, like u dont ahve anything better to do. all the answers come from them doing some test, the test dont lie then set & point all you want. but for the last nine yrs he was done his job keeping you safe if you live in banks co. oh but i guess for some of you that dont count. 9 yrs thats a long time dont u think. never in those 9 yrs did it say he had ever done this before or that in these 9 yrs he had try to hurt his kids. NO!!!! It doesnt. sitting here reading what everyone has wrote, i dont think half of you even know what your talking about, rEALLY get all the facts 1st, Everyone is making this so mush bigger cause it was a deputy if this was any of you, you would not want this made this big you would want everything done that could be done to show you where not DUI.

You have to ask: "Will we ever know" indeed? We could ask the same question about the money 'lost' yea right, from the tax commissioners office. It will most certainly end here just as everything else does with Banks County.
#3 Puzzled as well.. on 03/09/10 at 09:12 PM [Reply]
I believe you are exactly correct!! Just as we haven't heard hide nor hair of the former deputy tax commissioner...what happened to her and her happenings??? Yeah, that's what we thought...swept under the rug. Maybe Joker Joe will find out clues to all these questions while he is under the rug counting rolls of toilet paper and paper clips.

GBI doesn't sweep things under the rug. The woman is in jail. What else is there it say? Who knows, may Lori Slaton is linked to the missing money? Maybe the GBI is investigating that, but you need to get over your pettiness concerning local government. The perpetrator was caught and jailed, just as she should have been. No cover up. Get over it.

I was reading up on the georgia law it doesn't say anything about dui for medication. Here in state of georgia you cant be charge with dui for being drowsy for medication. If i were chris Thompson I would get me a good lawyer and I would sue every single one for making him lose his job. Chris has a very good case if he wants to do anything about it it is up to him. You cant be charged with dui for no kind of medication not here in state of georgia. I don't know where they went to school at but somebody needs to read up on the law.

WRONG! Read the section again. It's called DUI: Drugs not DUI: Alcohol. That is why it is the officers decision to select blood, breath, or urine or testing purposes. Even legally perscribed medications are considered drugs (Hence the name DRUG STORE). Anything that has the warning about operating machinery qualifies as DUI: Drugs.
#5 Its all about safety on 03/13/10 at 03:27 PM [Reply]
You can be charged for DUI if you are impared due to medication. Hence pts given narcoitcs in the medical world are released with a competent adult to drive them home and supervise them. Impared driving is drunk driving. Its all about safety and the one accident that could take out the impared driver and everyone else around him or her on the road.

If thats right then how come not everyone gets dui for taking medication? I had a friend who had a wreck and he was taking medcation also that person didn't get dui for it. And how come people with seizures and they are on medication and they don't get dui for having wrecks.
#7 DUH!!!!!!! on 03/17/10 at 12:58 PM [Reply]
First of all if you are diagnosed with having seizures you not allowed to drive. Second of all , we all know that when you take medication and it is a narcotic, it clearly states that you should not drive. I cant believe some of you are saying that this is ok. For all we know he could have been taking too many , I do know that you have to be pretty messed up to drive yourself and 9 other people off a ditch. Maybe some of you that think this is ok, should tell that to the mother of the little boy that had to have major surgery. I heard that 3 of the kids in that vehicle were the Deputy kids from his first marriage. I think there are alot of answered questions, that will get answered at his trial.

ok then take away all the georgias all the driving permitts and everything else that georgia has. But not all medication states that you shouldn't be driving and my friends medication it doesn't say nothing about driving on any of hers. So don't tell me about well you shouldn't be driving because it's on the medication bull shit because not all medication has no driving on it. give all georgias dui and put them behind bars.

I have a legitimate question to ask. If you were driving a car whether under the influence of legal or illegal drugs, should you be exmpt from prosecution if you were not able to control the car? To me, regardless, if there is an impairment of any type and you have an accident, it needs to be checked out. I am not saying that charges should be made every time. But I do think that if he is found to be under the influence of ANY medication to the point where it was unsafe for him to drive, he should be charged regardless of who the children belonged to (1st, 2nd wife or anyone else. And maybe Banks County should review all of the cases in the past nine years that concerned impaired driving to see just what the record is.
