It is all about the defense for Banks County High School’s varsity Leopards.
Coach Mike Ruth has been drilling defense into the team and it is paying off as the boys picked up a very important sub-region win over Walnut Grove last Friday night.
The 73-65 win was described by Ruth as “the most complete game we’ve played,” and improved the Leopards region standing to 2-5.
Banks will look to do it again this Friday as the boys face Walnut Grove again. The 8 p.m. game will be at the Warriors gym following the girl’s game.
On Saturday, Banks has another big sub-region game against Jefferson.
The away game with the Dragons will be a battle, as Jefferson looks to remain undefeated in region play. Tip-off is at 8:30 p.m.
Banks could come out lucky as Jefferson will be busy on Friday night looking to reclaim some pride as the Dragons host Commerce. Jefferson already has gone toe-to-toe with Commerce and was sent home with a 63-56 loss.
“We are playing tough and the kids are taking ownership,” Ruth said. “They want to win and I have seen a change in their attitude where they are playing harder and more aggressive.”
Earlier in the week, Banks hosted East Jackson. Results from Tuesday’s game against the Eagles were unavailable at press time.
