During the Christmas holiday break, the Banks County Lady Leopards faced two tough opponents at the Pickens County Tournament. Despite losing twice, Banks played with both Walker and Pickens.
“We just need to keep working towards our goal which is to be playing our best ball at the end of the season,” said coach Jerry King.
The Lady Leopards are now 3-8 for the season, with a region game against Jefferson coming up on Friday. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. with the boys to follow. Jefferson is 1-10 for the season. Updated:The Jefferson game on Friday has been canceled.
Banks was on the road on Tuesday, facing Fannin County. Results from Tuesday’s game were unavailable at press time.
In the first game of the Pickens County tournament, Banks squared off against Walker.
The Lady Leopards trailed at the half, 14-21. Late in the third, Banks started a comeback and carried over into the fourth quarter.
Madison Franklin hit six three-pointers giving Banks the opportunity to tie the game.
A chance to win from the line proved unsuccessful, forcing the game into overtime. Walker came back in overtime to win 54-47.
In the second round, Banks faced Pickens County.
Pickens would take the win 65-51 after taking a lead in the second quarter.
“Against perhaps the best team we've played all year, we played our best game. Unlike the Walker game, we hit our outside shots early.”
