CORNELIA – John Kenneth Caudell, 76, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009, following an extended illness.

Born in Banks County on July 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Pitner L. and Decie Coker Caudell. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cornelia and a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He also served as an administrative assistant with the Veteran’s Administration with over 30 years of service. Mr. Caudell was preceded in death by sisters, Cora Caudell, Mary Sue Donahue, Bernice Andrews, Doris Comer; and brothers, Oscar Caudell, Hermit Caudell and Louis Caudell.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Betty Caudell, Jefferson; sisters and brother-in-law, Christine Ivester, Cornelia, Bonnie and Armond Goza, Tucker; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 1, 2010, at 2 p.m. from the Whitfield Funeral Home with the Rev. David Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post #84, the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, December 31, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and that all memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Cornelia, P.O. Box 96, Cornelia, GA 30531, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Cornelia, is in charge of arrangements.
