Whether you’re enjoying a hot stone massage at the spa, sitting around the large outdoor fire pit on a cool evening enjoying a hot drink or eating fresh local cuisine at the Broad Street Grill, The Chattanoogan provides a perfect spot for a girlfriend get-away.
RELAXING AT FIRE PIT A fun spot to gather in the evenings at the Chattanoogan is the fire pit just outside of the hotel lobby. On a cool, crisp evening, it is so relaxing to sit around the fire pit with your friends and family.
Girlfriend get-away destination: The Chattanoogan provides perfect headquarters for weekend trip
Chattanooga, Tenn., is a great destination for North Georgia travelers. It’s an easy three-hour drive away and offers something for everyone from children to adults to senior citizens.
Special packages are offered and a girlfriend get-away package that provides a pampering weekend escape is one that is popular. The “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” package includes spa services, meals and other fun stuff.
The spa offers massages, facials, pedicures and manicures. Be sure to check out the specials during your visit. The prices are great and the service is top notch.
I had a hot stone massage to start the day on Saturday and it was a relaxing way to begin my time in Chattanooga. My massage therapist, Tera, provided just the right amount of pressure and my stresses were soon left behind. The therapist glides natural smooth stones over your muscles providing for deep relaxation. A sauna, fitness center and outdoor pool, as well as open sun area, are located at the spa.
Be sure to visit the hotel’s Broad Street Grill at least once during your visit. We made two stops at the restaurant, which is located adjacent to the lobby and everything was wonderful. A special feature is that local produce, breads and meat are all used to provide a fresh, delicious meal. The chefs work with area farmers to provide guests with the freshest local products.
Our evening meal included an appetizer of fried green tomatoes, an entrée of trout and grits and corn and beignets for dessert. It was a wonderful meal. The friend green tomatoes were prepared with goat cheese and hummus and the breading was thick and tasty. The trout and grits complimented each other perfectly and provided a great Southern treat. The beignets were a great end to the meal.
We also made a stop at the Broad Street Grill Sunday morning before heading out. The omelet station is great, and all of your favorite breakfast dishes are on the buffet. It’s a feast of breakfast pastries, fruits, meats and other favorites.
The Chattanoogan is conveniently located a short walk or shuttle ride away from the downtown attractions and a short drive to Lookout Mountain. The rooms are spacious with wireless Internet service and a flat screen television among the amenities offered.
A huge lobby with a fireplace and lots of couches and comfortable chairs is the focal point for many groups at the hotel. It’s large with plenty of room for everyone to visit but is still cozy with the fire blazing in the huge fireplace that can be seen from either side of the lobby. Another fun spot to gather in the evenings is the fire pit just outside of the lobby. On a cool, crisp evening, it is so relaxing to sit around the fire pit with your friends and family.
The hotel is located at 1201 South Broad Street in downtown Chattanooga. For more information on the hotel, go to www.chattanooganhotel.com or call 423-756-3400.
YEAR-ROUND FESTIVALS
This past weekend was a perfect time to be in the beautiful mountain town of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The weather was perfect and plenty of colorful leaves provided a great fall backdrop. As the fall festivities and special events are winding down, Chattanooga is gearing up for winter-time holiday events.
The annual Head of the Hooch festival was held this past Saturday and Sunday. It’s the second largest rowing event in the nation and it brings 9,000 rowers into town. Other special events and festivals are planned throughout the year. For the schedule and details, go to www.chattanoogafun.com.
DINNER OUT
For a fun dinner out, be sure to go to one of the hilarious Murder Mystery Dinner Shows at the Vaudeville Cafe. We went Saturday night for the “Redneck-Italian Wedding” and had a wonderful meal while being a part of a very funny show. The cast members wander throughout the theater while you are dining and speak to you in character. The “Italians” and “rednecks” were all great and made you feel as if you really were at a wedding.
You laugh, sing along and even enjoy some wedding cake. You also need to pay attention as a murder takes place and everyone in the audience will be asked who they think the killer is.
The Italian menu includes: Baked zita, pasta primavera with grilled chicken and vegetables, spaghetti noodles, meatballs in marinara sauce, macaroni and cheese, salad and fresh baked garlic rolls. For dessert, is the decadently wonderful double chocolate fudge cake. Buffet food at dinner shows is often bland but that is not the case here. Everything is wonderful.
The theater is located at 138 Market Street near the aquarium. For more information, call 423-517-1839 or go to www.funnydinner.com. Tickets are $26.50 for adults and $14 for children and includes the all-you-can-eat buffet. Several shows are offered each week and each show is different as the performances are interactive.
