Chase Poole was sentenced last week in Banks County Superior Court for vehicular homicide in the 2007 death of a Banks County High School senior.
Poole, Commerce, was also a BCHS student at the time of the accident in which Ashley Blevins died. In addition to Blevins’ death, Poole was injured in the accident, along with another passenger.
Poole pled guilty and was given a $2,000 fine, seven years probation and 100 hours of community service. He also must speak at the Georgia State Patrol’s “Speed Kills” program each year. A special condition is that if he receives a ticket for going 14 miles per hour over the speed limit, his probation will be revoked. He was not given any jail time.
The truth is, corrupt, craven district attorneys lie all the time across the country to improve their re-election prospects; in this alone we can assume there so was some good-old-boy back-patting going on. Remember, this is Georgia. The DA concluded that Chase needed to be made an example of.
More than that, newspapers have printed only half the story or have embellished a non-story on many times. It's happened historically; read up on yellow journalism.
You do not have the whole story. Do not pretend as if you do.
It is highly likely that much of the misinformation, such as this, has been spread through gossip (which Im sure runs rampant in communities like this). Its appalling how quickly many members of your community were to judge without really knowing much about the true nature of the situation. In fact, its disgusting really.
I am friends with the defendant and am well aware of the events concerning his trial. He is a fine young man with a kind heart and I am quite proud to be called his friend.
