Chase Poole was sentenced last week in Banks County Superior Court for vehicular homicide in the 2007 death of a Banks County High School senior.

Poole, Commerce, was also a BCHS student at the time of the accident in which Ashley Blevins died. In addition to Blevins’ death, Poole was injured in the accident, along with another passenger.

Poole pled guilty and was given a $2,000 fine, seven years probation and 100 hours of community service. He also must speak at the Georgia State Patrol’s “Speed Kills” program each year. A special condition is that if he receives a ticket for going 14 miles per hour over the speed limit, his probation will be revoked. He was not given any jail time.

My thoughts are with the family of the young lady was died in this incident. I must say I am surprised he got no jail time at all. Please pray for the family of this young lady who was needlessly taken from them.

In a way I am glad chase did not recieve any jail time because he is so young and the wreck was an accident. I was a senior at BCHS when this accident took place. I was friends with Ashley and was devistated by the loss. His punishment is appropriate for his age. The wreck was a pure accident. Just 2 friends fooling around in a car, driving way to fast and lost control. Accidents happen and people lose their lives because people are way to careless and don't worry about other people's lives.

Just to clear the record up for everyone real quick.... 1.) this news paper is crazy... 2.) Everyone thinks that he was driving at a crazy speed, when actually the speed was proven to be 63 mph in a 55 mph speed zone.... 3.) I know him personally, and people hurt him the worst....

The paper isn't crazy for publishing what the public wants to know. It was proven that he was going nearly 100 m.p.h.. I am sure that the D.A. would not have bothered with this case if it was just 8 m.p.h. over the speed limit.

Or perhaps you're just assuming that 1) the DA is telling the truth, and 2)newspapers print all the facts. From your post, we can conclude some facts about you, however. You're ignorant of many points on this subject, yet you still come here and preach from your lofty soapbox perch as if you were the arbiter of all truth. But you're not.

The truth is, corrupt, craven district attorneys lie all the time across the country to improve their re-election prospects; in this alone we can assume there so was some good-old-boy back-patting going on. Remember, this is Georgia. The DA concluded that Chase needed to be made an example of.

More than that, newspapers have printed only half the story or have embellished a non-story on many times. It's happened historically; read up on yellow journalism.

You do not have the whole story. Do not pretend as if you do.

He was going way faster than 63. Please don't believe that for a second. He was going around 100 mph. He did deserve jail time. Ashley's family will be "doing time" for the rest of their lives.

Some comments previously made are in dire need of correction...You demonstrate your true ignorance to the situation and need some quick re-education. The cops who determined his speed were proven to have used an incorrect technique that was subsequently corrected (They blatantly lied, or are idiots, and were caught). After calculations were done correctly he was found to have been going only marginally over the speed limit. There are a number of other discrepancies surrounding his case which I won't even delve into here.
It is highly likely that much of the misinformation, such as this, has been spread through gossip (which Im sure runs rampant in communities like this). Its appalling how quickly many members of your community were to judge without really knowing much about the true nature of the situation. In fact, its disgusting really.
I am friends with the defendant and am well aware of the events concerning his trial. He is a fine young man with a kind heart and I am quite proud to be called his friend.

As a student at the time, a friend of all involved as well as the family and friends left behind, I would like to say there is no reason for arguements on here. The truth is out there everyone who needs to know does.... whether they are covering it with a lie, or sheltering thereseleve from the guilt that follows. we must not live by what they say or think, we must move on together. We MUST let go, We MUST move on together. We are not strong alone, We are not ready alone. But together we can forget about who is right or wrong, who is saying what. We can hold our heads high and be confident that we have each other to lean on.

Ashley was my best friend and everyday I think about her and what she would be doing if she was still with us. I am glad this case has come to an end for all parties involved especially Ashley's family. They have been through so much the last 2 years. Even though it hurts so bad to lose someone as special as Ashley was to me, I know the good Lord took her for a reason and all we can do is look to him for comfort. I have faith the Lord knows what he is doing and all the outcomes of this tragedy is what is in his will. I just hope that Ashley's death is not in vein and that everyone, especially the young high school drivers out there, can learn something from this tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the Blevins and Poole family during this time and thoughout the holiday season. God Bless and Merry CHRISTmas!! Remember the reason for the season!
#7 Can't Believe This on 12/14/09 at 04:49 PM
I just want to take the time to Thank everyone for saying what that believe... It's nice to know that the community that I live in is so wrapped up in another life and not worrying about their own. Accident or not I take full responsibility. I always have, and honestly people will believe what they want to believe and that is perfectly fine. You want to see the proof that I wasn't running 100 mph then you can just contact me. I just want people to think realistically for a moment, do you guys really think that I don't have guilt about this situation? Do you people think that you are making it better? Kayla, I want to thank your for your wishes. I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas also.

Yes, people will believe what they want to believe. A jury indicted the driver on 1st Degree vehicular homicide(look up 1st degree vehicular homicide) charges because of the speed he was going....wasn't it in the nineties.. as stated in the G.S.P. investigation? I do feel that the driver feels guilty about what happened. It doesn't change the outcome, that he chose to speed wrecklessly that day.Hopefully others will think before they make the same poor choices.

The jury that indicted Chase only heard the D.A's side of the case. When indicted on any criminal charge the only evidence that are presented to the jury to indict are from the D.A....The person who actually was hired to do the investigation by Chases'attorney was former head of the S.C.R.T. (Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team) who actually trains GSP officers to reconstruct accident scenes. So..really, you all can believe what ever you want. The truth is known by all who work at the D.A.'s office and anyone who was involved in the case. The speed was no where close to 100mph...it was 63 mph. Why do you think the plea was offered people? The D.A did not want to take this one to trial....I know Chase and his family personally. They are loving and caring people. They would not hurt anyone on purpose. All you people that just keep judging need to stop. You have not been in the shoes of either family and have no clue what you are talking about. I will continue to pray for both families and I also wish them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I just want to say. Every one involved in this has suffered enough. This includes Chase and Ashley's family. Chase has to live with the the rest of his life. Do people not realize that is alot of punishment for a young person? We are all very sorry for Ashley's family. My daughter was one of her friends. And she still goes to the gravesite to see her. And she still cries. But that is because Ashley was a beautiful, caring unselfish person. And if any of you really knew her you would know she wouldn't want you bashing Chase the way everyone is. I personally wish Chase and his family along with the Ashley's family a Very Merry Christmas, and I hope The New Year brings every one Happy, Healthy & Peaceful year.

The death of Ms. Blevins' is tragic. I feel though that some people in the community of Banks County are completely ignorant to the fact that Mr. Poole is a very upstanding man who does what we all do and went 8mph over the speed limit. Tell me, how many of you can honestly say that none of you have ever sped before. I know Mr. Poole personally and he is truly devastated over the death of Ms. Blevins. Some of you stated that he was going almost 100mph,this statement is completely false. I am not undermining the death of Ms. Blevins, and my heart and prayers go out to her family. The community of Banks county needs to help support Mr. Poole through this hard time instead of continually trying to pull him down. Think what if this happened to you and just like that your community turned against you, your life had been changed for ever, and now you must move away, because people like you are bashing him to the point of madness. Think before you speak and the only one that can judge is God.

The legal aspects of this case is over whether Chase was given 0-99 years Ashley is not coming back to us. Chase has to live with this for the rest of his life and so do we. Ashley was the light of my entire families lives and we miss her terribly and want to start building on good memories and not the tragic events that happened that day, so please for everyone my family and Chase please stop the bashing and let Ashley rest in peace and let us all have closure.
