Early voting is under way for the Dec. 1 runoff race for two seats on the Banks County Board of Commission. Early voting will be held through Wednesday, Nov. 25. Voters may cast a ballot from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the registrar’s office in the county annex.

The run-off election will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 1, for the two new seats on the Banks County Board of Commission. In the District 2 BOC race, Ernest Rogers and Fred Wendt will face each other. In the District 4 BOC race, Robin Trotter and Charles Turk will be on the ballot in the run-off election.

While the commissioners are appointed by district, they are voted on at large. This means that all county residents are allowed to vote for both of the district seats on the Dec. 1 ballot.

Those registered voters who did not vote in the General Election will be allowed to vote in the run-off, as well as those who did cast a ballot on Nov. 3.

It's disappointing that Mr. Tim Roberts chose the week before the runoff to publish his tirade against Robin Trotter, thereby denying her the opportunity to refute his story.

Assuming everying he says is true, are we to assume he, himself, has never made an error in judgement; and, again, that he made the effort not once, but twice, to apologize to the person about whom the error was made? I'm afraid it's going to be very difficult, if not impossible, to elect someone who has never made a mistake in life...He walked the earth 2000 years ago and is not running for office!

It's a sad commentary that he would use his precious child to promote someone's candidacy; and I can only trust the people of Banks County can see through this kind of distructive political posturing. In my own letter to the editor last week, I purposfully avoided mentioning anyones' name; and I avoided the use of the word "Christian." The reason I did this is because I distrust anyone who uses the word to pressure someone else into believing, thinking or voting the way I do. I think this does a terrible disservice to the name "Christian," because it is meant to make someone feel guilty if they don't behave the way I want them to.

Robin Trotter is one of the kindest people I've ever known; and I'm sure there are many, in this county, who can attest to this. Ask all the families she has helped over the years; they will tell you there is not an unkind bone in her body, and I'm sure they, too, take offense at seeing her depicted this way.

I couldn't agree with you more. This whole campaign has been dirty against Ms. Trotter. Since her phone number was on her ads, I have called to inquire about the various rumors and have checked them at the courthouse as well. She is an upstanding citizen who definately cares about the welfare of the children of the county. Is this firefighter issue ever going to end? And what is the Reese man's role in this? The letters he's sent out and the radio announcements 'paid for by Sammy Reece'? Thought he was on the payroll of the county? Is this where our tax dollars are going, to pay for slime in a local election? No wonder a tax increase is on the way, so Sammy can buy some more slime time.

Honesty my foot. looks like foreclosure too
#2 Fred Wendt on 11/27/09 at 01:43 PM [Reply]
I have known Robin to be sincere, honest and caring. She is a hard worker and attentive to her responsibilities.

Attempts to derail her campaign, from what I've heard, have penetrated most of the county with innuendo and false assertions from the very early days of the campaign season. I know, because I have canvased the county extensively myself. I had hoped this campaign for the two brand new seats on the Banks County Commission would stay on a positive plain. Sadly, this doesn't seem to be the case for some people around the county.

Whatever happens in next Tuesday's runoff election will put all of this to an end, one way or another. I hope and pray that everyone who can will get out and vote their own convictions and beliefs and not someone else's.

Giving thanks to all,

Fred Wendt

Some people do not know the truth!!!!

As a Robin supporter, I sincerely appreciate all of your comments on her behalf. Hopefully Fred, both you and she will be elected. Both of you have campaigned in a positive manner without the negativity associated with both of your opponents. Perhaps in this situation, right will win and goodness will prevail.

I plan on voting for Robin Trotter. I don't see any common sense currently in the county commission, she can't do any worse. She might even do what she says unlike Mr's. Dalton, Barefoot, and Cain! And note to Sammy, your ad's turned me to Ms. Trotter.

Tim Roberts tried to put it in last week but was told by Angela Gary that she couldn't publish that cause it was to damaging to Robin. If he wanted it published he had to wait till this week and pay for the spot. Hmm wonder why he had to pay no one else seems to have to pay.
#6 Anon on 11/29/09 at 06:14 AM [Reply]
As a Robin supporter, I appreciate all of your remarks on her behalf. She has proven herself in her work within the community and has not deserved the personal attacks that have been levied against her. Both she and Fred have focused on the issues facing the county, not lowering themselves to the level seen in Atlanta politics. We can just hope that right will again win, and that wrong will stay in the gutter where it belongs.
#7 Angela Gary on 11/29/09 at 09:06 AM [Reply]
I didn't talk to Tim Roberts last week. I did not tell him that he couldn't put the letter in because it was damaging to Robin Trotter. These are both total lies. Not sure why people are lying.
I have been employed with MainStreet Newspapers for 25 years. The policy has always been that letters for or against a candidate during the election season must be paid advertising. This is not my policy. It is the company policy.
#7.1 anon on 11/30/09 at 01:39 AM [Reply]
Thanks for setting the record straight. I am not sure why people are lying either. Do any of the people running for office or their supporters really think it is worth telling lies to the voters to get elected?? It does not seem to me that we need them in office if they had to lie to the voters in order to get elected.
#8 Free supporter on 11/29/09 at 10:49 AM [Reply]
the problem is that I am not a Robin Supporter because of her finances. Let her tell you about them.
#8.1 anon on 11/30/09 at 01:26 AM [Reply]
I am not sure what you are talking about and would like to know before I vote. Please explain your comment free supporter.

You must be a sad and miserable person to make up such untruths! There's know public records of such occurrences. Be careful what you say it may come back to you
#9 Donna Coghlan on 11/30/09 at 11:23 AM [Reply]
Yes, I, too, would like to know where the information comes from, Free supporter and also Anonymous 1.2 who referred to "foreclosure," and Anonymous 2.1 who said we don't know the "truth." Please have the courage to use your name and tell us. No doubt you've all checked records to be sure what you're alluding to is true or else you wouldn't take the chance of slandering someone. I would caution everyone that slander laws probably do not go by the wayside just because someone is running for public office, so I'd be extremely cautious about spreading unchecked information.

To everyone who uses the pseudonym "anonymous" or its variation to specifically make unkind and unsubstantiated personal attacks, I'd suggest some reading material--Isaih 29:15 - "Woe to those who seek deep to hide their counsel far from the Lord. And their works are in the dark: They say, 'Who sees us?' and, 'Who knows us?'"
#9.1 James Dumas on 11/30/09 at 09:31 PM [Reply]
Amen, Donna! It is sad to know that folks will seek to hurt others by spreading unchecked information. I have had a little experience with untruths myself. No wonder so few people chose to seek service as an elected offical. I am glad Banks County has two people like Robin Trotter and Fred Wendt who have stayed positive and addresses issues. Please understand you may lose an election by remaining positive, but you will not lose your values and ethics. Both values and ethics are more important and will allow you to be at peace in yourself. Regardless of the vote tomorrow; Fred and Robin I appreciate both of you and your love for Banks County as a whole. I have stayed out of the political scene by personal choice but I care about what happens in Banks County. This type attacks will never serve to make government better but only destroys and hurts people. It is a shame that some people will use any means to get what they want. How sad.
#10 Robin Trotter on 11/30/09 at 04:26 PM [Reply]
For those of you that are concerned and would like to know the real truth about these rumors it is time you hear from me.

1.) Our home that we sold WAS NOT IN FORECLOSURE!

2.) Randy and I have PAID OUR TAXES EACH YEAR. If you are still concerned please go to the tax office and check the records.

3.) I AM NOT A COUNTY EMPLOYEE. I am contracted through a State Family Connection Grant. I have a board that sets the budget and oversees the operations of the 3-Year plan. The 3-Year plan is based on the needs that are identified in a community assessment of the county. A collaborative networking group of different agencies and representatives come together on a monthly basis to work on the strategies and goals of the 3-Year plan.

4.) For all of the other positions that you have questions about those are volunteer. I volunteer my time to be the Director of the Banks County Community Resource Association, Inc. (which includes the food bank, clothes closet, Christmas program), volunteer on the Med-Link board, volunteer EMA Coordinator, volunteer Housing Authority board, etc. The key word here is VOLUNTEER - NO MONEY. I didn't take these positions for money. I took the position to serve the families and children here in the community and I have done that for the past 9 years.

5.) I have also heard about the rumors that I am against poultry farmers and conservation land use. I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO HERE IT FROM ME - I AM NOT AGAINST POULTRY FARMERS OR CONSERVATION LAND USE.

I hope this will put these rumors to rest but if you still have concerns please give me a call at 678-316-7187.

Thanks for setting the record straight and hopefully ending all the rumors that people have been telling.
Good Luck in the election---All the negative comments, rumors, and ads swayed my decision to vote for Robin Trotter.
I encourage everyone to go vote.
#10.2 anonymous on 12/01/09 at 09:08 AM [Reply]
It appears that all the negative comments, rumors, and ads are coming from the Wendt-Trotter campaign. I don't see any negative ads, blogs, etc. from the opponents. Also, the opponents cannot be responsible for any negative comments made by folks who are supporting them (Turk and Rogers). I believe Wendt and Trotter are the ones spreading lies and rumors - could this be a campaign tactic? I do hope voters will not be influenced by this trick - seems they might be scared and resorting to scattering dirt. I believe the voters are too smart for that.
#11 Larry Williams on 12/01/09 at 09:35 AM [Reply]
These comments have proved to be helpful and educational. I am afraid not enough people found them. We need a general community blog for Banks County. See what you can do Angela.
#12 Donna Coghlan on 12/01/09 at 10:54 AM [Reply]
Once again, 10.2 anonymous, could you please be specific. What negative rumors and ads are coming from Mr. Wendt and Ms Trotter? All the ads I've seen, in the BCN, simply stated the action the candidates would take to improve our county. I never saw a single thing alluding to the other candidates. And, what exactly were the "lies?"

Yes, the voters are smart--smart enough to see through innuendo.
#12.1 anon on 12/02/09 at 02:06 PM [Reply]
Well, the first I heard of any negative comments was your article in the BC News. You stated that the opponents were telling untruths and numerous other references to a nasty campaign normally seen on the state and national level. What were you referring to?
#13 Old Commish on 12/02/09 at 09:16 AM [Reply]
Yes Donna Coghlan they were smart enough to see through the crap that was spun buy Fred and Robin, they were out here telling one set of voters one thing and another set of voters something else. Question for you? When Tim Roberts called you at your house, why didnt you have the guts to talk to him? You hide behind your husband Pete, why? But yet you want to get on here and tell all of us we are doing wrong, thats right guys Tim called her to set the story stright and she wouldnt talk to him. So dont preach to us about hiding, the people of this county has voted and we now have got the Gene Hart Machine out of county government. Good luck Ernest and Charles.
