A business locating in Baldwin will bring 25 new jobs to the town.
The Lumite Division of Ethicon is moving its operation into the Ken-Bar building. This will create 25 new jobs in Baldwin.
“These jobs will pay $12-$12.50 per hour,” Mayor Mike Kelley said. “They are not minimum wage jobs.”
Cedric Randolph, Lumite plant manager, appeared before the council at Thursday’s city council meeting requesting they take a look at the total of the fees to the city.
“Originally, we were told the fees would be around $100,” he said. “We were told to hold up for a little while the fee structure was being changed. Now we are being told the fees will be around $4,000.”
Kelley said on Thursday the city has asked for half of the fees up front and they will take a look at the remainder owed. Kelley reported on Monday that the city is continuing to work with Lumite on this.
