A new zoning map was approved by the Baldwin City Council Monday night. The updated zoning map includes all changes since the previous map was adopted in January 2006. A key change that the mayor and council were pleased with was the addition of a label that will identify properties that contain conditional allowances in the zoning.
Mayor Mike Kelly said that the labels would allow better tracking of what is going on in zoning.
The city council also approved the purchase of a new roll up shop door for the storage building from North Georgia Doors for $1,285. The current door has pulled away from the frame and no longer will open. The cost will be split between the street department and water department budgets since both departments use the building to store equipment.
Also on the agenda Monday night was the purchase of a replacement K-12 rescue saw. Council member Jeff Murray explained that the saw is primarily used to cut through steel doors or garage doors and could be used for car extrications. The saw that the city fire department had became worn out with use and is unable to be repaired, according to Murray. The council approved the lowest quote from Swineharts for a STIHL brand saw for $875.46.
