When qualifying ended Wednesday for town elections, races were set in Homer, Baldwin and Lula for the mayor’s seat.
In Homer, incumbent Doug Cheek will face challenger Sandra Garrison, who is now a member of the city council. The election will be Nov. 3.
Those to qualifiy for the five at-large seats on the ballot are: incumbents Jerry Payne, Betty Borders and Chris Tucker, as well as Cliff Hill and Tony Sullivan. Incumbent Kevin Cape did not qualify.
In Baldwin, incumbent mayor Mike Kelley will face Jerry Neace. In the Post 4 council seat, Jeff Parrish and Michael Parker qualified. In the Post 5 council seat, incumbent Robert Bohannon and Mark Reed qualified.
In Lula, incumbent mayor Milton Turner will face Paul Cox. In the District 2 council race, incumbent Vicky Chambers will face Bruce Lane Jr., In District 3, incumbent Mordecai Wilson was the only candidate to qualify.
In Gillsville, the only candidates to qualify were incumbent mayor Larry Poole and Post 1 council member Roy Turpin. No one qualified for Post 2, which is now served by Tim House. The city attorney, David Syfan, is researching how to fill this position since no one qualified.
In Alto, the incumbents were the only ones to qualify. They are: Post 1, Cathy Armour; Post 3, Margaret Beaupre; and Post 5, Gary Terrell.
