It has been six years since the Banks County class of 2003 graduated and for some, what was a hobby then has become much more now.

Other Side of Homer (O.S.H.), a local band that specializes in an acoustic southern rock style, started forming 10 years ago when Rusty Cheek and David McWhorter began playing music together.

Since that time and the start and dissolving of several bands and a stint in the Air Force by McWhorter, the addition of lead guitarist Zach Shirley brought about the creation of O.S.H. in Jan. 2009.

The popularity of O.S.H. rose as friends of the band members became aware of performances and the band began booking local venues.

The band describes their style as “a little different than your everyday acoustic jam session.” Featuring Shirley on lead guitar and supported by Cheek on rhythm guitar, McWhorter takes point on vocals as the band rips through covers of classic southern rock songs and shines with original music.

McWhorter said that one of the O.S.H. hits “What Kinda Song” was co-written by country music star Brantley Gilbert.

The combination of country, rock, and a little bit of everything else that defines O.S.H.’s style allows the band to cover everything from Marshall Tucker to Jack Johnson and lives up to the lyric “tell me what kinda song do you wanna hear.”

The band’s webpage at MySpace.com offers samples of their music.
