A new citizen’s group has formed in Banks County with encouraging participation in the upcoming election being one of the goals of the organization.
The “Committee for Shaping Banks Future,” a newly formed non-partisan Political Action Committee (PAC), had a good turnout for its first public meeting on June 30 at Ryan's Steak House. A diverse group from across the county reportedly attended the meeting to find out more about the organization.
"Our mission is to provide a platform for the general public to voice their concerns, put forth ideas and address the issues that will promote and preserve Banks County,” chairman Weldon Mintz said. “Our objective is to take this time of change in the political arena to increase voter registration, hold political forums and fundraisers for the upcoming election season.”
Voter registration drives are planned for both the Homer and Maysville festivals. The first public forum is scheduled for Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Building in Homer. All candidates are invited to attend.
Coming up on Aug. 25, there will be hotdog supper held at the Banks County Farm Bureau Building.
“We are inviting all citizens no matter what party to attend,” Mintz said. “We are seeking new members who want to bring a positive and supportive change to our government.”
