Hopefully Americans will wake up

By chance, I caught a few minutes of Atlanta-based radio talk show host Herman Cain Friday night. Cain, who is as predictable as the morning sunrise, was blasting Democrats as he took part in a Teaparty. Cain, the one-time Republican candidate for the United States Senate, never met a Democrat he liked and likewise never finds fault with any Republican.

Unfortunately, therein lies the problem with Cain’s logic.

Is the American politic system broke? You bet. Does it need a major overhaul? Absolutely. Are Democrats partially to blame. You bet they are.

However, Cain is only seeing half the picture. Of course, when you wear rose-colored Republican glasses, what more can you expect?

The Republicans are equally to blame for the current economic mess we are in. You could easily make a case they are more responsible. I don’t care what yackers like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly and the like preach to their blind followers on a daily basis. They have their Kool-Aid drinking base, but if we are ever going to change the way things are done politically in this country then we have to go outside the Democrat-Republican two-party box which has trapped politics as we know it.

The obvious choice is the Libertarian Party which has long advocated tax reform, both at the local and national levels, long before it became the popular cause for talk show hosts to take up. Libertarians have been preaching about tax reform for years, decades even, but who has been listening?

What’s amusing — and a little pathetic when you boil it down —is to hear Republicans across the country try and take the lead for tax reform. How long have they had to institute change? How much longer do they deserve to bring about change?

I say their time has run out. The same goes for Democrats who have never been accused of being the taxpayers’ best friends. Enough is enough. When will voters stop sending the same candidates from the same parties back local, state and national seats?

With an open governor’s race in Georgia next year, voters in the Peachstate have a great chance to send a message about politics as usual. John Monds is campaigning as a Libertarian and would shake up the state and nation if he were sent to Atlanta.

I won’t go into all the details of his platform — you can see that on his website— but rest assured if you are concerned about your tax dollars being wasted, Monds if your candidate. If you are concerned about individual freedom, Monds is without a doubt the best candidate.

Georgians have a chance to let politicians know that citizens in this state are no longer going to take just whatever crumbs are handed to them. It would be the first step in a true voter revolution and one that is so desperately needed in our state and country.

Electing Monds as governor of Georgia would do so much for the hard-working taxpayers who rightfully have been pushed too far. It would send a message louder and stronger than any number of Teaparties would.

Yet, if you continue to vote for candidates belonging to parties who only talk about change, then you will get what you deserve. The choice is yours. It’s time to start doing your homework for the 2010 election. It’s too important not to.

Amen. And pardon the irony but, we also need to stop legislating morality. Let the government govern and the churches preach.

Oh my goodness, I can hear the screams of outrage from the Dems and Reps now! EQUAL TIME, EQUAL TIME. How DARE you give FREE publicity to someone (unless it's who we want to get it)????

Sadly, the two party system, which has been dragging this country's government into an ever downward spiral, will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER allow a third or (God help us!) fourth party to be more than a barely mentioned "also ran". Ask yourself why would the two parties who are in control of the government EVER voluntarily allow ANY of the pie to be sliced off for someone else? Right now its a "me against you" contest with back and forth tug of wars. Don't worry if "our" party loses big this time, we will get it back...the OTHER guys will screw up and then who will the American people have to turn to then? Well, US of course, there is nobody else! But, if there was a third or fourth or fifth choice...can you imagine the shivers of horror and fear from at "party" headquarters?

And do you know why things will never, ever, ever, EVER change? Because most people are SHEEP who will believe anything "their party leaders" tell them to believe.

And every day things continue to get worse.

Try to tell someone and they will brand you a nut case, avoid you at all cost or smile and quietly tell others "he's a good man, but he's not quite right in the head..."

And downward we go. Baaaa. Baaaaa.

Because the federal bank is not in their pocket. Second I thought taxes were unconstitutional.

If you are against a two party system each of you are pointing the finger at the wrong problem. it is a fact that a plurality voting system, which we use in this nation, will inevitably result in domination by two parties. leaving all others to take a back seat. it is happened in every nation that employs this voting, except for India. the only reason it has not occurred here is that it has only been used for a relatively short period of time. by following the elections of this nation one can see that it is already shaping into yet another two party system. perhaps the problem is not the voters or those being elected, but rather the system in general.

And maybe it IS the voters. Maybe its our own fault for believing the "easy lie" instead of facing the hard truths years ago. Maybe if a person didn't have to compromise their integrity and sell out to the highest dollar just to get elected things wouldn't be like they are. Maybe it really doesn't matter what we think because its all going to continue to get worse anyway, because nobody is doing anything that actually matters to make it change for the better.

Maybe one day it will all "just get better", all by itself. And maybe one day a very HOT PLACE will freeze over. Maybe I won't hold my breath. Maybe you shouldn't either.

Oh great and wise problem solver of the world, I see a lot of description of your view of the problem, but I don't see any suggestions as to how to resolve it.

Since you are obviously far beyond our mere mortal intellect, would you care to share with the class just how you think we should fix this problem?

When we had the BUSH DUO...WE GOT CHANGE....EXCEPT WE REALLY NEEDED DOLLARS...but to make my point to all -you -georgia people....you-all know things were worse after the either of the two of them ,,,of course your ''RED'' state would vote a third Bush in in 2012....if he runs.....

America was built on certain freedom,,,,religion being one of them ,,,,any exactly why would this be a problem for you???
#4.1.1.1 Dave on 07/19/09 at 09:04 AM [Reply]
Ah let's see, I really don't have an issue with religious freedoms, however beheadings, women degraded and forced to wear veils, abdulla's intent on world domination with death to the christian infidels, umm, planes flying into sky scrapers, zealots blowing themselves up in order to obtain large numbers of virgins in the afterlife, and slicing the throats and cutting off the heads of anyone who disagrees really does put a damper on my views of a certain religion, should I keep going or do I offend your liberal mindset?

It still baffles the you know what out of me that Americans re-elected Bush in 2004. Talk about stupidity. Without a doubt, the worst president we've ever had, worse than his father by a country mile.

Mr. Bridges does know about rose-colored glasses.
He's had it on for liberals every since he's been writing. Obama's ratings are dipping(dropped seven points this week) as he's failed to live up to his "tax free" promises. You will be wanting a Republican back in office before too long. Just wait until the Democrat-controlled everything subsidizes this nation and spends us to death.

YEAH,,,YOU ARE EXACTLY RIGHT,,,,,WE REALLY NEED ANOTHER ...BUSH...THEN WE COULD START A WAR WITH ANOTHER CONTRY THAT HAS OIL....MAYBE ,,,AFRICA....
#8 Joe Christmas on 07/22/09 at 03:03 PM [Reply]
To Dave I would agree that beheadings and flying planes into buildings put a damper on religion, just as bombing abortion clinics preaching hate against foreigners or any other hate done in the name of Christianity is also wrong. Most people of all religions believe in peace and loving God. The United States should be a place where you can peacefully worship whatever you believe.

Three things Mr. Davis
1. Hit the caps lock button.
2. It's COUNTRY not CONTRY.
3. Africa is not a country, it's a continent.

Mr. Davis did not have to ''dummy it down'' for you-all......but he did get your attention.....
#10 Joe on 07/25/09 at 08:47 PM [Reply]
Hilarious! I bet Bush knows Africa is a continent. Some folks are saying that Republicans are warmongers, but a quick look at U.S. history shows that Democrats have presided over some unpopular wars as well. Consider Vietnam (LBJ- Democrat) and Korea (Truman- Democrat). As a matter of fact, Democrats have presided over wars much more than Republicans. I think we would've been at war over there regardless of who was in office.
#11 T.D. on 07/28/09 at 07:53 AM [Reply]
It's not about the oil, America has more untapped oil than any other Country, yet we can't touch it because we have to many tree hugging idiots, whom would rather be reliant on another country than be self-sufficient. As for the war get over it people, we have been there done what we needed to do and are coming home. When you want to point your finger at Bush, remember the horror if you can of 9/11. Then step down off your self raised pedestal and say a prayer of appology to the people who died that day and to the families who lost loved ones because of a over zealous religion. NO Christians are not perfect far from it. All religions have extremest, yet we haven't gone into Iran or anyother country to destroy them because of thier beliefs.
