LULA – Maj. Kevin Michael Jenrette, 37, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, near Kapisa Afghanistan of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.
Born on September 2, 1971, the son of Colonel (Ret.) Albert W. “Bill” and Ursula Jenrette of Auburn, Ala. He was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church.
Upon graduation from Lyman Ward Military Academy and North Georgia College, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army, where he became an Army Ranger and served with the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii. He was promoted to Captain on July 1, 1999, and then was an instructor with the 5th Ranger Training Battalion, Camp Merrill, in Dahlonega. In 2005 he was transferred to the Georgia Army National Guard, where he served as a full time officer with the Recruiting Sustainment Program, where he was promoted to Major in August of 2005. At the time of his death, he was serving on the 1-108 RSTA Battalion of the 48th BCT, Ga ARNG. He served his country with courage, honor and humility.
Survivors include his wife of would have been 10 years in July, 2009, Shannon Parker Jenrette; children, Corey, 7, Brody, 5, and Megan, 1, all of Lula; mother and father-in-law, Kenneth and Linda Parker, Lula; grandmother, Elly S. Klauer, Auburn; sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and George Welsh, Baton Rouge, La.; nephews, Ryan and Nathan Welsh; niece, Elly Welsh; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Michele and Bryan Thomas, Lula, their children, Andrew, Deaton, Nicholas Deaton and Tristan Thomas, Regina and Steven Marchbanks, Lula, their children, Clay and Macy Marchbanks, and Shannon’s grandfather, Herbert Buffington, Lula.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Rd., Gainesville, GA 30504, on Thursday, June 11, and Friday, June 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, at 3 p.m., at Timber Ridge Baptist Church in Lula with the Revs. Dean Bryant and Anthony Cook officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at Lyman Ward Military Academy in Camp Hill, Ala., at a later date.
