Inside the final 16 was as far as the Banks County Diamond Leopards could push this year in their postseason drive.
Banks County’s postseason ended Thursday after a three game battle with Westminster.
Westminster went on to defeat Bleckley in the quarterfinals and take a spot in the final four.
The Leopards ended their season as the number three seed in Region 8-AA with a 10-6 region record. Their overall record for 2009 was 19-10.
Diamond Leopards’ head coach Joe Lord said that the team gave it their all and set a new standard for the program.
“I cannot express how much love and pride I have for these players and coaches,” Lord said. “The seniors meant a lot to our program and a lot to me personally. They will be sorely missed next year, but they have taken this program to new levels. This was a special team and a special season, and I am thankful for the experience.”
A tribute to the team will be coming up on Sunday at the annual baseball banquet May 24 at 2 p.m. at Homer United Methodist Family Life Center.
