Trucking business rezoning to go back to planners

A large crowd attended the Banks County Board of Commission meeting Tuesday night in hopes of finding out if a trucking transportation business would be allowed to locate in the county.

They left with no answers as the matter is still to be decided. The commissioners decided to send the request back to the county planning commission to consider a conditional use permit.

John Seigler asked that five acres located on Yonah-Homer Road be rezoned from agricultural/rural residential to general commercial. Seigler wants to continue to operate his business on the site. He has been unable to get his business license renewed because of the zoning.

When the request was first heard before the planning commission, Janet Seigler presented the request and said it is an agribusiness transportation company that has Fielddale Farms in Baldwin as its primary customer. Mr. Seigler said the business would be a parking lot where a maximum of 10 trucks would be parked at night and on weekends.

The issue will probably be on the June agenda of the planning commission.

OTHER BUSINESS

In other business, the BOC:

•agreed for the chairman to serve as the trustee for the employee retirement plan.

•amended the Family Connections grant to account for the loss of a $3,000 grant.

•approved the water tank maintenance contract with Utility Service Company.

•added an additional 565 feet to the Charity Drive improvement project.

•agreed to proceed with a wastewater treatment facility site archeological survey.

•agreed for county clerk Jenni Gailey and development authority chairman Wayne Abernathy to handle economic development questions that come to the county.

My husband has been driving a truck for more than 20 years, and has been laid off since January. If this company could open here that would be at least a few more jobs for someone like us who needs one. And like was said before every time you use something think about how it got to you....
