ATHENS – Olius “Joe” Jones, 76, died Sunday, May 3, 2009.
A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Roy E. and Cora Lee Motes Jones and was a retired textile worker. He was a member of Joy Baptist Church. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a son, Mike Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Frankie S. Jones; children, Helen Hewell (Wayne), Gillsville, Ricky Jones, Elberton, Sue Barrett (Will), Nicholson; stepchildren, Steve Smith (Debbie), Bogart, Phil Smith (Dawn), Watkinsville, Cindy Nunn (Terry), Jefferson, and Kim Stewart (Stephen), Watkinsville; sister, Nell Nix, Jefferson; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 6, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Purcell of Attica Baptist Church and the Rev. Steve Stringham of Cornerstone officiating. Burial will be in Evergeen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
