The Leopards’ track program will be sending two to the state competition starting May 7 in Jefferson.
Lyn Hester qualified for the state meet last Saturday and set a new school record with a shot put throw of 48’9”.
J. Diaz also set a school record over the weekend in the 1600m with a 4:45 finish, then qualified for state on Monday in the 3200m with a runner-up finish of 10:38.13
“We had some awesome competition and came in fifth out of nine schools with a score of 31.50,” said coach Teresa Moore after Saturday’s competition. Following the finals on Monday, Banks moved to sixth place with a final score of 47.50.
North Oconee took the championship at 132 points followed by Jefferson (118), East Jackson (103), Riverside (87), and Oglethorpe (79). Rabun County (31) took seventh and Dawson County (24.50) finished eighth.
