“We were up to the challenge and eager to punch our ticket to the state playoffs,” said coach Joe Lord about the Banks County Diamond Leopards. “We are excited to play in the final four of the region tournament and even more excited that we are hosting the tournament at our park.”
The Leopards will advance to the final four in the region tournament. Banks County hosts the tournament Thursday starting at 11 a.m. when the Leopards face the Dragons from Jefferson.
“It will be a big challenge, but we are excited about the opportunities that are in front of us,” Lord said. “We've now qualified for the state playoffs in back-to-back years, and that is a great accomplishment for our program.”
The Banks versus Jefferson game will afford the Leopards a chance to payback Jefferson after a 19-0 sweep two weeks ago.
Also on Thursday, North Oconee plays Fannin County at 2 p.m. Then, the third place game starts at 5 p.m. While the first place game, opening pitch is at 8 p.m.
Banks County secured its spot in the final four after a doubleheader win over Dawson County last Friday.
