BALDWIN – Nelson W. Lewallen, 76, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, following a brief illness.
Born in Banks County on December 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Jim and Madge Coffee Lewallen. He was retired from Ritchie Gas Company, was formerly employed with the Baldwin Police Department, the Banks County Sheriff’s Department, and was a member of Baldwin Baptist Church. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Lewallen was preceded in death by a sister, Janette Watkins; and brother, Owen Lewallen.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Frances Addis Lewallen, Baldwin; daughters and son-in-law, Patricia and Terry Griffin, Baldwin, and Dena Hall, Winder; sister and brother-in-law, Ruzelle and Milton Patterson, Homer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Swayne and Lynn Lewallen, Homer, Clay and Peggy Lewallen, Ray and Glenda Lewallen, all of Baldwin; grandchildren, Tammy and Jeff Owens, Clarkesville, Amber Hall, Fayetteville; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Aaron Williams, both of Clarkesville.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 5, at the Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church with Bishop Ronald Wilson and Geoffrey Dillard officiating. Burial was in the Fairfield Baptist Church cemetery.
